The RYCO 24•7 race team had another successful outing the first weekend of July at the Milan Dragway in Milan, Michigan. Competing in the 1/8 mile “Heads Up, First to the Finish” race, the car used its 2500 horsepower to reach speeds as high as 184 mph in just 4 seconds. To put this in perspective the average automobile has between 150-300 horsepower and you know how far and fast you can go in 4 seconds. Jason’s Dodge Challenger is loaded with some of Americas finest muscle and it has just over 500 horsepower. After qualifying and then competing in multiple races throughout the day and night, the RYCO 24•7 team finished fourth overall. The RYCO 24•7 team has a busy schedule over the coming months and plans to return to the Milan Dragway for another Heads Up event on August 5th, however this time they plan on taking the 1st place trophy home with them.

McLeod takes Championship Podium in Sydney Finale

Gerard “Maverick” McLeod and the McLeod Racing team have ended the 2015 V8 Ute Championship placing in third position overall; ending the season on the streets of Sydney for the series decider.

The weekend started with the RYCO ROCKET in 10th position. McLeod had a blinding start off the line in Saturday’s Race 1, quickly slotting in front of fellow championship contender Adam Marjoram.  McLeod then set his sights on Andrew Fisher in the Jesus Falcon passing him on lap 7 to finish 9th overall.

A reverse-grid in Race 2 saw McLeod start from pole position but was passed in on the opening lap. McLeod narrowly held onto 2nd position for the 9-lap race whilst holding off pressure from the field. The accumulation of the championship points leading into Sunday’s final race of the season saw McLeod in 5th position.

An early safety car period saw Race 3 shortened to a 5-lap sprint to the flag for the championship contenders. McLeod was in 6th position on track and 4th in the series points. On the 3rd and final lap of the race a heavy crash at turn 1 pushed the RYCO ROCKET into 3rd positon in the championship overall.  McLeod battled hard to hold off a late charge by series champion Ryal Harris, crossing the line in 6th position to narrowly take 3rd in the series by only 1 point.

McLeod also took out the Most Improved Driver Award at the official V8 Ute end-of-season function. After a stand-out season McLeod and the McLeod Racing team have now set their sights on winning the 2016 Championship and continuing their strong form.

The East Coast Bull Bars V8 Ute Series will return in 2016 for the opening race at Adelaide’s CLIPSAL 500 for Round 1.

McLeod survives carnage for Gold Coast Podium

2015-10-29 11:11 by Admin

It’s been a busy 2 weeks for the McLeod Racing team completing both Round 6 and 7 of The East Coast Bull Bars V8ute Championship at Bathurst and the Gold Coast respectively.

The team survived the Bathurst weekend with a straight ute and a good haul of points. They finished 9th and remained 5th place overall for the round. Although the weekend did not bring the overall race results the team were looking for Gerard McLeod was pleased to come away from the weekend unscathed.

Round 7 of the Championship saw McLeod claim his third podium round result of the year with 3rd overall for the weekend on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

The weekend did not start ideally for the team with McLeod only managing the 12th fastest time during Friday afternoon’s all-important 20 minute qualifying session.

Friday afternoon saw the first of the weekend’s three 12 lap races and McLeod was keen to improve his position. An opening lap safety car period was needed as the RYCO ROCKET’s clutch started slipping. McLeod then went on to bring the number 50 ute home in 12th position limping across the finish line with very little drive and a salvaged finishing position.

A reverse grid for Race 2 saw McLeod lucky enough to start from pole position resulting in a commanding lead by turn 1. Despite two large multi-car accidents at turn 11 and 12 McLeod easily lead the field home for his 3rd race win for the season.

Race 3 saw the RYCO ROCKET start in 3rd position on points and McLeod did not disappoint, rocketing into 2nd position behind Ford’s Aaron Russell. After fierce multi-lap battles for poll position and despite a bent RHF suspension arm, McLeod pushed ahead to secure 5th position.

What a great weekend…………… to come away from the weekend without a scratch on the car, still fifth in the championship, another race win and our third podium result for the year I couldn’t be happier” said a delighted McLeod.

The East Coast Bull Bars V8ute series now has a 5 week break and will return for the last round of the Championship on the first weekend of December. The race will be held in the streets of Sydney’s Homebush Olympic Park for the Sydney Telstra 400.

First round win for McLeod at Sandown

The weekend started poorly for the McLeod racing team, struggling to find a good balance in the RYCO ROCKET during the two Friday practice sessions. This continued into the all-important afternoon qualifying session where McLeod could only manage 16th overall after being caught out by a badly timed red flag period which was the first time the team had been outside the Top-10 in over 7 rounds.

Saturday morning’s Race 1 saw McLeod get his usual blinding start and start making his way through the field with front running pace ending the 12 lap race in 8th outright and no damage on the ute.

Race 2 saw the top nine cars be inverted meaning McLeod would start on the front row of the grid next to Ford’s George Miedecke.  McLeod bolted off the line and established an early lead however late race pressure came from Miedecke and contact was made with the back of the RYCO ROCKET which sent McLeod wide, resulting in Andrew Fisher taking the lead of the race on the final lap and McLeod having to settle for second.

McLeod started the third and final race of the weekend yet again from the front row of the grid.  Another cracker of a start saw McLeod lead into turn one and establish an early and comfortable lead.  A mid-race safety car period had little effect and McLeod went on to claim his second V8ute race win and first ever round victory to the delight of the whole RYCO Racing team.

McLeod now sits 5th overall in the V8ute championship standings and is only 12 points behind 3rd positioned David Sieders with three rounds of the championship remaining.  The next round of the V8ute Racing series is at Mt Panorama Bathurst for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on the 8-11 of October.
