First race win and podium for McLeod in the top end

2015-06-26 04:47 by Admin

Gerard “Maverick” McLeod and the McLeod Racing team have had their best ever round result in the Australian V8ute Championship with a 2nd place overall at last weekend’s Sky City Triple Crown at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway for round 3 of the series.

McLeod got a fantastic start in the opening laps of Saturday’s race 1 and slipped into 8th position by the end of the third lap and began a battle with Kim Jane, finishing a credible 7th overall at the end of the 12 laps.

Sunday’s reverse grid draw for race 2 saw McLeod start from position 2 next to Ford driver Jeremy Gray. McLeod got a blinding start and led into the first corner and was never threatened for the lead comfortably taking his first ever V8ute race win with a dominant performance.

McLeod started the final race of the weekend from pole position and with a very good chance of not only his first V8ute podium but also taking out the round win. Another outstanding start saw McLeod lead into the first turn and set off into the distance. A mid race safety car period to recover a damaged ute bunched the field back up and left McLeod to defend his lead from Ford driver Chris Pither for the final lap of the race.

McLeod defended the Ford perfectly on the final lap but Pither was able to sneak up the inside with a bold move on the final corner. This set up an amazing door handle to door handle, Ford vs Holden drag race to the finish line. McLeod lost the win to Pither by 0.006 seconds making it the closest race win the history of v8utes. McLeod finished a career best 2nd overall for the round and now sits 7th in the championship standings.

2015-05-07 06:02 by Admin

The McLeod Racing team has had its best ever V8Ute round result at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway for Round 2 of the East Coast Bull Bars V8Ute racing Championship held last weekend.

Race 1 saw McLeod get a blinding start and slot into 7th position by the first corner. McLeod continued to move up the pack throughout the race and brought home the RYCO 24•7 Rocket in 6th Position.

The Number 50 Ute started Race 2 at position 5 on the reverse grid. McLeod fought hard in the opening laps to slot into 4th by lap four. On the 10th lap McLeod forced his way past Ford Driver George Miedecke resulting in a V8Ute career best placing of 3rd.

Starting from the second row of the grid, McLeod went into the third and final race with a good chance of taking the round win if he could secure a win. After a fierce battle, a slight error in turn 7 and tyres lacking grip it came down to the last lap where McLeod was edged out of the top 3, finishing in 4th position.

Look at him go

Allow me to introduce the youngest team member of RYCO 24•7 Rutherford in NSW. Tristan Barber has won two trophies piloting his C grade Junior Dragster, the 1st trophy was for an encouragement award and second was for best reaction time for the meeting. Best reaction time was against all competitors. His reaction was a 0.005sec this is his first year of driving and he has completed a couple of test days with the car and also the Gunnedah meeting. So far his best time over the 1/8 mile (200mtrs) is a 12.15 at 82km/h. Tristan is 9 years old and absolutely loves the experience. He is showing a technical understanding of the mechanics of both the car and racing well above his age. Dad and mum are both very proud of his progress so far. Tristan attends Wirreanda Primary School. His school made a comment about how racing has changed him. "In a good way", he has shown more confidence in himself and it has brought him out of his shell. Tristan races at both Sydney Drag way and Gunnedah but will be travelling up and down the east coast racing. He is one cool kid alright and wait till you see what his dad is up to.

See the Ute meet the Driver Day at RYCO 24•7 Ingleburn and RYCO 24•7 Mascot

2014-12-16 02:23 by Admin

On Wednesday the 3rd of December Gerard “Maverick” McLeod made himself and his V8 Ute available to the RYCO 24•7 Service centres in Sydney to meet with customers and staff. Gerard gave everyone a bit of insight in to how and what it takes to run a Ute in this highly competitive class of motor racing.

Many attendees were surprised at the amount of physical and financial commitments these guys make to this class of incredibly close racing as well as what it takes to create the spectacle it is and that is why it is such a firm favourite with the fans. We would like to thank Gerard for his efforts this year, both on and off the track to help us in our drive to gain exposure and brand recognition for RYCO 24•7 . Thanks again Gerard

McLeod charges to finish in 2014

2014-12-15 05:28 by Admin

The Macmahon Racing team has endured a tough finish to the 2014 V8ute championship on the streets of Sydney’s Homebush Olympic Park but has come away with a list of positives to be proud of after its third season of racing. The weekend (5 – 7 December 2014) started fantastically for the team with consistent top 10 speed from the MAC UTE during Friday’s two 20-minute practice sessions leaving the team very confident leading into Saturday’s (6 December 2014) qualifying session.

Saturday morning brought the ever important qualifying session and McLeod was instantly to the top of the time sheets in 4th overall. After a quick pit-stop to adjust tyre pressures McLeod tried to better his pervious time but was unable to after catching slower traffic ending the session in 10th overall only 0.9secs off pole position.

Sunday’s Race 2 saw McLeod start in 29th position quickly making up 9 positions on the opening lap. The race was cut short due to a safety car period but McLeod was able to end the race in 13th overall passing and incredible 16 utes in just five completed race laps winning him the “DBA HARD BRAKER” award and $500 in the process. The No.50 ute also recorded the 4th fastest race lap of the race which was also very impressive.

Race 3 saw the MAC UTE again start at the back of the field in 27th position and quickly move into 18th by the end of the first lap. McLeod then picked off ute after ute to finish a strong 15th in what was a very hot race for the 32 car field.
